Volunteering @ Perkins School For the Blind

During my time volunteering at Perkins School for the Blind, I supported two main areas: the Garden Club and the Annual Giving Office. In the Garden Club, I worked alongside AmeriCorps members in both the greenhouse and on preparations for the plant sale, helping with planting, organizing, and maintaining the space. I also spent time working directly with students, assisting them in the garden and supporting their activities, which helped me better understand different approaches to learning and communication that students with disabilities must take. In the Annual Giving Office, I helped prepare for donor engagement events such as the Taste of Perkins event, contributing to organization and event preparation. Across both settings, I gained a deeper appreciation for the collaborative effort required to support the Perkins community and the impact of both hands-on learning and behind-the-scenes work.
