Senior Documentary!

What is the documentary?

This project took up a significant portion of my SSP hours, and I worked closely with three of my friends: Ayana, Sylvie, and Matthew. The purpose of the project was to create a meaningful gift for the senior class by capturing our collective reflections on the past four years. We attempted to interview every student in the grade, and although that was challenging, we were able to include a wide range of voices and experiences. The documentary was shown to the senior class last week, which was an especially meaningful and rewarding moment for all of us.

Questions

Early on in the process, we came up with four questions to ask across all groups: “say thank you to a person or experience at BB&N,” “what is a moment you wish you could replay,” “describe your BB&N experience in one word,” and a special question that was tailored to each group. These questions helped create a balance between reflection, gratitude, humor, and individuality, allowing each interview to feel both personal and meaningful.

Sign Outs

We also conducted senior sign-outs as part of the project, where students wrote their final messages directly on screen. This created a simple but meaningful way for members of the senior class to leave behind reflections, gratitude, and closing thoughts that complemented the documentary as a whole.

Editing

The editing process was one of the most time-intensive parts of the project, and it required me to learn an entirely new skill set through using Adobe Premiere Pro. It was challenging at first to navigate the software and bring together all of the interviews, footage, and sign-outs into a cohesive final product. However, over time I became more comfortable with the editing process, and it ultimately became a deeply rewarding experience. Seeing the final documentary come together made the long hours and technical learning process feel especially gratifying.
